[ The stay ]

A 6,400 m² beachfront estate in quiet East Bali, built in 2023 as a scatter of timber and bamboo pavilions across sand and jungle — a free-form lagoon pool with a rope swing and jump tower, an underground cinema and club, a treetop yoga deck, an open-air gym, infrared sauna and ice bath, and a private bamboo restaurant exclusive to guests. Eight bedrooms, sleeps 21.

This eight-bedroom estate sits directly on the water in Candidasa, a quiet seaside village on Bali's southeast coast that has kept the unhurried feel the island's busier corners traded away years ago. It spans 6,400 m² and was completed in 2023, and it is less a single house than a small private resort: timber and bamboo pavilions scattered through palms and jungle, linked by sand paths and walkways, with the Indian Ocean at the end of almost every one of them. The pool is a free-form lagoon that runs toward the beach, with boulders set into its edge, a rope swing over the water and a jump tower above it. Around the grounds there is a treetop yoga deck, an open-air gym framed by sand and jungle, a beachfront terrace laid with cushions for sunset, and a spa with an infrared sauna and an ice bath set behind glass that looks into the pool. A soundproofed room beneath one of the pavilions works as a cinema, a karaoke room or, if the evening goes that way, a club. Meals are handled by a private restaurant on the estate, exclusive to guests and built as a soaring bamboo hall with a long timber table and the beach in view. The kitchen leans on local sourcing and cooks both Balinese and international menus. Elsewhere there are several lounges, one framed by a waterfall, and a games room with a pool table, ping pong, a bar and deep leather chesterfields under a psychedelic mural. The eight bedrooms are spread across the pavilions rather than stacked in one block, and each is different: two below the cinema, two beside the games room, one in a two-storey treehouse above its own kitchen, one in a pondhouse, and two in a pavilion split by an open-air living area with a glass floor over water. All are air-conditioned and en-suite. One pairs a king bed with an adjoining bunk room that sleeps six, which is how the estate takes 21 guests in total. The rate includes daily breakfast, a villa manager, chef, housekeepers, butlers and 24-hour security, with a welcome drink and fruit on arrival. Spa treatments, a car and driver, fishing trips, yacht charter and helicopter tours can all be arranged. Central Candidasa's restaurants are about a kilometre away, the Tirta Gangga water palace roughly thirty minutes, and the hiking trails around Sidemen about forty-five.
