The approach climbs steeply — a 4WD is worth having for the last stretch — and delivers you to a house arranged over two levels with covered parking for three cars and a lawn falling away toward the water. The beaches, restaurants and nightlife of Chaweng are a few minutes down the hill. The design takes its cue from Bali without pastiche: pitched ceilings lined in warm timber, deep overhangs, and glass walls that slide entirely away so the main pavilion becomes an open-sided room between the pool and the horizon. The natural granite boulders on the site have been kept and built around — one forms the backdrop to a built-in outdoor sofa in turquoise, another anchors the pool terrace. The pool runs the length of the terrace with an infinity edge disappearing into the sea view, framed by palms and the green hillside below. Behind it the living room opens on two sides, furnished with deep sofas, a live-edge timber dining table and a collection of colourful art and textiles that gives the house real character. The open-plan American-style kitchen sits alongside in white with an island and breakfast stools, and a second dining terrace catches the morning light. Five bedrooms are spread across both levels — four with king beds and one twin — several opening directly to the lawn or a sea-facing terrace, all air-conditioned with ceiling fans and hung with framed art. The four bathrooms are finished in pale grey stone with walk-in rain showers, twin vessel basins on timber counters, and one carrying a freestanding tub set at a window over the bay. Bed linen and towels are changed every three days, high-speed fibre WiFi covers the house, and there is a laptop-friendly workspace.
